ROCHESTER, NH — Holy Rosary Credit Union in Rochester, NH announces Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer Rosemary Shields is retiring in early September 2024 following 24 years of service.
“Over a year ago, Rosemary started to plan her retirement and as bittersweet as it is, I congratulate her on such a remarkable career and wish her a wonderful next chapter in retirement,” said President and CEO Brian Hughes. “Rosemary has played a key role in HRCU’s growth, development and overall successes. I know I speak for our board, volunteers and staff that we all feel a deep respect and appreciation for everything Rosemary has done at HRCU and her commitment to our members. And for me personally, being a great friend.”
Shields began her career with HRCU in August 2000 as a teller supervisor and quickly progressed through various branch administration and operations positions. She was named Chief Operating Officer in 2013 and promoted to Executive Vice President in 2017.
During her time with HRCU, Shields initiated and oversaw the credit union’s Member Support Center, Compliance Department, and several system conversions in addition to bringing on three new branches. Shields pioneered HRCU’s Interactive Teller Machine (ITM) network that now includes five full-service ITMs and is growing.
Shields will be staying on as project manager for HRCU’s new branch opening in Greenland in October 2024.
“Rosemary came to HRCU the same year I joined the board of directors,” said Dana Flanders, HRCU’s chairman of the board. “I have had the pleasure of seeing the many accomplishments Rosemary has had and just how passionate she is about HRCU and the credit union movement. Rosemary not only has the best interest of our members at heart, she has seen, and continues to see the potential of the employees, and has mentored many to very high levels of success within HRCU. I know Rosemary will be missed by all who have interacted with her; she has been a huge asset for HRCU. I hope for a long and enjoyable retirement for Rosemary, she has definitely earned it.”
Additionally, Shields played a key role in the establishment of HRCU’s Christmas Caring Campaign, which has supported 202 local nonprofits and has awarded $300,000 over the last 10 years. She also helps lead HRCU’s Student Scholarship Program, which has resulted in 278 students receiving approximately $280,000 in scholarships since inception. She fully embodies the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and imparts that feeling to our staff, colleagues, and members.
Shields has been very active in the community, serving on boards and committees throughout her career including Rochester Court Diversion, Strafford YMCA, SES Finance Council, Gaffney Home Board, the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program and many credit union councils.
