Meet HRCU's Consumer Lending Supervisor, Sara McHugh. Sara is a home-grown Rochester native and a Spaulding High School alumna. It was in high school, while attending HRCU's finance classes offered through our Spaulding High School Branch, that Sara found her passion for finance. Several years later, she leads a team of lending officers in helping our members qualify for and sign loans for all kinds of milestone purchases. From cars to RVs, personal loans, and credit cards, Sara and her team are here to help members get a great rate for their next purchase and navigate the world of lending.

What is your role at HRCU?

"I manage the lending team that handles personal loans, credit cards and auto loans. My team and I specialize in interviewing, underwriting, processing, and facilitating these various types of loans to enhance the financial well-being of members, just like you!"

What makes you passionate about your work?

"My professional career started at the financial education course provided by HRCU to students at Spaulding High School during my senior year. Right after graduation, I was hired at the largest credit union in the state as a part-time teller. I progressed to become the Assistant Branch Manager of their busiest branch. in 2020, due to shutdowns, my branch was closed down and relocated. As a loan officer, I focused on making loan decisions and working closely with members during this period of uncertainty. It was then that I realized my true passion lay in lending."

How do you and your team help members reach their financial goals?

"The biggest purchase a person can make is buying a home. The second biggest is purchasing a vehicle. In order to make both of those purchases, lenders typically look at the past two years of repayment history, spending habits, etc. I work with members to build or rebuild their credit while assisting in creating a budget to improve their financial lives and achieve their goals."

Lastly, what are some things you enjoy outside of work?

"During my free time, I enjoy continuing my own education, uplifting my community, and helping at my local animal shelter whenever possible, in addition to spending time with my loved ones."
