Security & Fraud Prevention

Safeguarding your finances with trusted, local support.

At HRCU, your financial security is a top priority. From fraud protection tips to secure banking tools, we're here to help you–and your finances–stay protected.

Stay safe from scams in 2025

Fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated, and HRCU is seeing a rise in scam attempts, especially during high-activity times like tax season and the holidays. Staying informed about current scams is your best defense.

To view common scams in your area, check out AARP's interactive Scam Tracker.

Be on the lookout for these common scams:

  • Spoofed Calls from “HRCU”: Scammers may mimic our phone number and pose as HRCU representatives, asking for sensitive information such as your card number, expiration date, CVV, account number, online banking credentials, or other personal details.
  • False Claims of Fraud: You may be told there’s suspicious activity on your account and that HRCU is responsible for it. Some scammers will coach you on what to say when visiting a branch or pressure you not to disclose the interaction to us.
  • Gift Card Scams: No legitimate organization will ever ask you to pay using gift cards. If someone instructs you to buy gift cards and send them the numbers on the cards—hang up immediately.
  • Tech Support Scams: Pop-up messages, emails, or phone calls may claim something is wrong with your device and offer to “fix” it remotely. This is a common way scammers gain access to your information.

Protect yourself by remembering:

  • HRCU will never call and ask you for personal or account information. If you're unsure, hang up and call us directly at 603-332-6840.
  • Never make payments using gift cards or cryptocurrency. This is a big red flag of fraud.
  • Don’t keep secrets. If someone urges you not to tell HRCU about a transaction or conversation, that’s a clear sign something’s wrong.
  • Get real tech help. If you're concerned about your device, visit a trusted computer technician instead of allowing remote access.
  • When in doubt, stop the conversation and contact HRCU. Our Member Support Team is here to help—call us at 603-332-6840 or stop by your nearest branch.

“I can’t thank HRCU enough. An employee noticed something unusual with my mother’s account and stepped in right away—it turned out she was being targeted by a scam. Because of their quick action and genuine care, we were able to stop the fraud before it got worse. They treated us like family.”
